The quick answer
Spectrum sets the advertised price, and an authorized retailer cannot add to it; service, billing and installation come from Spectrum on either route. What changes is the part before the order: with us, a person reads the coverage Spectrum filed for your ZIP, confirms your street address, prices the bundle with you and places the order. Spectrum may pay us a referral fee when you sign up, and it is not a markup on your rate. Spectrum occasionally runs online-only offers, and if you would rather do everything yourself online, ordering direct is a reasonable choice.
What Spectrum controls, whichever way you order
All of these belong to Spectrum, whether the order comes through us or through Spectrum directly:
- Price. Spectrum sets the monthly rate, the length of the promotion, the standard rate that follows and any fees. An authorized retailer can charge neither more nor less than Spectrum’s advertised rate.
- Billing. The bill comes from Spectrum and you pay Spectrum, not us. After the order is placed, we do not see your payment information.
- Installation. Spectrum books and carries out the installation, by Express Connect Kit or professional technician, with Spectrum’s equipment.
- Equipment. Modem, router and any TV box are supplied by Spectrum on direct-order terms.
- Service questions after sign-up. Technical issues, billing questions and service changes go to Spectrum, exactly as after a direct order. We step out once Spectrum has confirmed the order.
- Promotions. Current promotions such as the free mobile service, the Savings Guarantee and the TV contract buyout are open through authorized retailers as well as direct; the exception is an online-only offer, covered below.
What ordering through us adds
Almost all of it happens before the order exists:
- A person on the line. You call (877) 365-2069, and whoever answers checks your street address, lays the bundle options side by side and places the order during the call. That helps if you have questions, want the arithmetic done for you or have not settled on a speed.
- Coverage from the FCC filings. The ZIP search on this site reads the FCC Broadband Data Collection, where providers file their own coverage. It lists the providers filed for your ZIP, Spectrum included where it filed, with the share of the ZIP each one reports and its top speed.
- The rate after the promotion. For plans with a published regular rate, our pages list it beside the promo price. For plans without one, we say standard rates apply and pass on Spectrum’s quote during the call. Nobody should meet the new rate for the first time on a month-13 bill.
How we are paid
Spectrum may pay us a referral fee when an order placed on our phone line activates. The fee is Spectrum’s money, not yours, and it does not change your monthly rate.
That raises a fair question: does the fee tempt us toward bigger plans? Our answer is that the wrong plan is bad business for us too, since households that cancel early or have a poor experience do not order again or recommend us. A bundle that fits is the outcome that works for you and for us.
We will not claim to have no financial interest in your decision. We have one, it is described above, and you can weigh it.
When to order from Spectrum directly
In these cases spectrum.com is the better route:
- Online-only promotions. Now and again Spectrum limits an offer to online sign-up. It is uncommon, but it happens. When spectrum.com quotes a lower price than this site, ask whether it is an online-only offer; if it is, order online.
- You prefer a fully self-serve experience. If you would rather not make a call at all, that is reason enough, and Spectrum’s direct channel handles it.
- You already know exactly what you want. Address confirmed, plan chosen, ready to click “order”: the online checkout does that quickly.
We would rather you know this. The advice is not “always use a retailer.” It is “call when a conversation would help.”
Signs a third-party Spectrum site is not what it claims
Not every site selling Spectrum plans works the way an authorized retailer should. Four things to look for:
- Prices that don’t match spectrum.com. Authorized retailers quote Spectrum’s advertised residential rates, so a much lower price with no explanation is a warning sign: no legitimate channel sells below Spectrum’s published rate.
- Claims of being “official” or Spectrum itself. Authorized retailers are independent and say so. Any site presenting itself as Spectrum, or missing the independent-retailer disclosure, is hiding what it is.
- Forms asking for personal details before showing coverage. There are none here: the ZIP search reads the FCC coverage filings, and orders are placed by phone.
- Invented prices, testimonials or statistics. Every price in this section is Spectrum’s advertised price, and every coverage figure is from the FCC filings.
We are independent of Charter Communications. That is why we can say plainly when Spectrum is not the right choice for an address: we are not Spectrum.
Before you call: four things to have ready
If you decide to order through us, the call is shorter with these at hand:
- Your service address: the full street address, not only the ZIP. The FCC filing covers the ZIP; Spectrum confirms service at the premises.
- Your current bills: the Savings Guarantee compares against them, so have the Internet and mobile statements open.
- A sense of how many mobile lines you need: one, two or more lines leads to a different bundle.
- Whether you’re in a TV contract: if so, the TV Contract Buyout (up to $500 with qualifying TV + Internet packages) may apply.
You can call without having decided anything; sorting these out is part of the call. The number is (877) 365-2069.
